Management of complex building maintenance

The problem/issue

A major UK university engaged RCRProjects to provide expertise on how to maintain the strategic assets of its buildings and plant within a limited budget.

This higher education establishment has a large and complex estate of buildings from the 19th, 20th and 21st century with a range of mechanical & electrical systems all in different states of repair.

A strategy was required to allocate resources more efficiently and to use costs strategically to meet ongoing statutory compliances and continued operational life across the campus.

Our solution

RCRProjects utilised our full knowledge of managing complex and intricate technical projects to consult on the project. We devised a comprehensive maintenance plan, including the keeping of accurate records and regular compliance inspections.

With hands-on experience as building services engineers operating in high pressure commercial environments, we were able to work directly with the on-site engineers to put in place practical solutions to achieve the continued operational life of the assets across the campus buildings.

Measure of success

By continuing the regular inspections and maintenance of the built asset the learning environment has been improved even within the constraints of the available budget.

With a detailed technical knowledge of the campus, RCRProjects now manage day-to-day projects on the ground, liaising directly with other contractors and the campus team to ensure works are delivered effortlessly

We have advised this client for over 5 years, becoming a key part of their service delivery. The teaching and learning environments are now maintained to the highest standard possible within commercial budget restraints delivering annual projects with a value of over £1million per annum.

At any point in a project or estate lifecycle RCRProjects can provide innovative, effective & efficient ways to manage the built environment to benefit the end user, and drive efficiency and sustainability.
