Management of the tender and installation of an air conditioning system

The problem/issue

An increase in the number of students was putting more demand on the facilities of a higher education building built in the 1960s.

The lack of supply and extract air was not able to satisfy cooling and heating requirements causing problems with maintaining a consistent temperature and potential discomfort for the occupants.

The building uses concrete risers in 6 main cores, has single glazed windows plus obsolete air handling units with heating coils supplying areas of the building with tempered fresh air. The old infrastructure coupled with the changing climate in the UK meant a modern VRF / VRV air conditioning system was required to supply both heating and cooling.

Measure of success

RCRProjects led this project through to completion utilising our teams’ skills and communication to manage across multiple contractors.

Our technical experience allowed us to overcome arising issues efficiently and effectively without any impact on the programme timeline or project cost which kept the client, contractors and stakeholders happy.

The new VRF/VRV system keeps conditions optimum for the occupants and, as it is functioning effectively, is now more economical to run and maintain.

At any point in a project or estate lifecycle RCRProjects can provide innovative, effective & efficient ways to manage the built environment to benefit the end user, and drive efficiency and sustainability.
